Hayle is a town of two halves on the roof front, and that's what makes it such interesting ground to work on. Down by the estuary and around Foundry and Copperhouse, the older terraced and industrial-era properties carry traditional slate and clay-tile roofs, much of it original, much of it now needing the ridges, valleys and flashings put right.

Up around Loggans and out towards the newer estates spreading from the edge of town, it's a different mix: modern pitched-tile roofs and plenty of flat-roof sections over extensions, porches and garages. But wherever the property sits, the one thing every Hayle roof shares is the salt. The town's position right on the estuary, a short hop from the open beach at the Towans, means salt-laden air is a constant, and salt is hard on a roof.
