The Roofer Behind the Name
I’m Steve, the owner of West Cornwall Roofing & Leadwork. I’ve been roofing for over 10 years, and in that time I’ve developed a real passion for producing high-quality domestic, heritage and commercial roofs that clients can trust.
The roofs I’ve spent my career on aren’t like roofs anywhere else. West Cornwall’s properties range from granite cottages and listed period homes to modern extensions and new builds, and every one of them faces the Atlantic. Salt air, driving rain and some of the strongest winds in the country test every joint and fixing on a roof. Learning to build and repair roofs that genuinely stand up to that, from traditional slate and scantle to specialist leadwork and modern fibreglass flat roofs, is what shaped me as a roofer.
It’s also why I chose to qualify properly, and specifically. On top of my roofing NVQ, I trained for the separate NVQ in leadwork and certified in flat roofing, because the lead detailing around chimneys, valleys and flashings is the most skilled part of any roof, and it’s exactly what keeps a Cornish roof watertight.
I established West Cornwall Roofing & Leadwork to give people a reliable, high-quality roofing service built on craftsmanship, attention to detail and honest advice, roofs that clients can genuinely trust. Roofing is a trade where the credentials behind the person genuinely matter. Here’s what Steve holds, and what each means for you.
Two separate qualifications, and the leadwork NVQ is a genuine specialism few general roofers hold. It covers the detailing where roofs are won or lost.
Trained and certified in modern GRP and EPDM flat-roof systems.
Confirmed training and competence to work safely on site, often required on commercial and managed jobs.
Your roof accessed and worked on safely and legally, including recognising the asbestos cement hidden in some older Cornish roofs.
Public liability, employers’ liability and hot-works cover, complete protection on every job, including torch-on and lead soldering.
